CAQH ProView Management: Best Practices for 2026

CAQH ProView is the universal provider data repository used by most commercial health plans for credentialing. A complete, accurate, and regularly attested CAQH profile is the single most important factor in credentialing speed.

What is CAQH ProView?

CAQH (Council for Affordable Quality Health Care) operates ProView, a free online tool where healthcare providers enter and maintain their professional credentials. Over 1.4 million providers and 900+ health plans participate. When you apply for credentialing with most commercial payers, they pull your data from CAQH rather than requiring a separate application.

Setting Up Your CAQH Profile

Step 1: Register Visit proview.caqh.org to create your account. You will need your NPI number and a CAQH provider ID (which you can request from any participating health plan or get directly from CAQH).

Step 2: Complete All Sections CAQH has sections for personal information, education, training, licensure, certifications, work history, malpractice insurance, hospital privileges, and practice information. Every section must be completed — even sections that seem irrelevant to your practice.

Step 3: Upload Supporting Documents Upload copies of medical licenses, DEA certificates, board certification letters, malpractice insurance face sheets, and any other supporting documents. Digital copies must be legible and current.

Step 4: Attest Attestation is your digital signature confirming that all information is accurate and current. You must re-attest every 120 days. Set a calendar reminder — lapsed attestation can delay or block credentialing applications.

Common CAQH Mistakes

  1. Leaving sections blank — Even if you think a section does not apply, complete it with "N/A" or the appropriate negative response
  2. Expired attestation — Re-attest every 120 days, not annually
  3. Outdated documents — Replace expired licenses and insurance certificates promptly
  4. Work history gaps — Explain every gap greater than 30 days
  5. Wrong practice addresses — Ensure all practice locations are current

CAQH and Different Payer Types

Not all payers use CAQH: - Most commercial payers — Use CAQH as primary data source - Medicare — Does NOT use CAQH; uses PECOS (Provider Enrollment, Chain, and Ownership System) - Medicaid — Varies by state; some use CAQH, others have proprietary systems
